This years summer next year

"Spring 09 is a virtual return of the looks languishing on many sale rails" Khabi Mirza from the Drapers magazine quoted.

Anyone planning on clearing out the 08 wardrobe hold tight. Talk is that spring 09's street wear is looking set to be the return of the Spring 08 sale rail. Most the fashion industry would like to think checks, colored jeans and 80's sports nylons are done and dusted for a few more years but for most males these will remain tomorrows trend.

The reason behind this drought? There just isn't any trends coming through to match the impact the likes of checks and nylons had in retail this summer.

Denims got the detials

A year back it was all about how tight you could get denim around your legs with skinny jean sales dominating the younger age end of the market. A year on, skinny jean sales are starting to slow up, losing favour to the commercial 501 - inspired straight leg jeans.

Along with the change in popular fits, this Autumn will see 'treatment mania'. It's detail that popular labels have turned to, aiming to set their brand apart from their competitors . The most prominent treatments are; leather cinch straps, canvas pocket flaps and embroidered waistbands.

The Fonz back in fashion

In previous years we have seen the parker, military, and bomber mens jackets dominate the Winter seasons but it's all change for 2008. If your on the market for a jacket this Winter think The Fonz, think leather, because this year it's all about the leather jacket. At Bread and Butter Barcelona we saw the majority of labels backing the trend to be a big winner this coming season.

One brand in particular producing some very nice leather garments is UK led mens fashion label Luke 1977. Two of the jackets from the Luke Winter collection are now available to buy from ESPY Menswear.

Luke 1977 Durham leather jacket £249.99

Tommy Hilfiger now a wanted brand

This Autumn expect to see 1950's Americana references in the UK shops. Fleece-collard lumberjack jackets to fur-collared multi-pocket woolen styles. The working American is the look of fall 2008, and with Americana on allot of retailers minds this has brought Tommy Hilfiger to the front line .

Tommy Hilfiger struggled to compete with UK-focused brands since it's establishment, but it seems the US heritage label is starting to receive the recognition it deserves with a year-on-year sale rise of 22%.

The 'F' word back from the 70's

Ask most British lads who were teens back in the early 80's and your see a little grin upon their faces as they recall their self-conscious years when they were fanatical about detail, with music and fashion big in the playground.

It's was the 70's when Farah was introduced into the UK at a time when the media was transfixed with the emergence of punk, the Farah Slack was assimilated by British youth culture when a whole generation of young men created the trends of the 70's, this is when Farah entered the smart casual scene for some years.

35 years on from when the brand first laid footsteps in the UK, the famous Farah Slacks and Leisurewear collection has brought the brand back to the front line of the fashion industry. The authenticity of the Farah brand and the depth of the available archives have inspired the market once again. Forget about the vintage style of Lyle and Scott, its time to look out for the orange 'F'.

Trends for Autumn/Winter 08

Wouldn't it be nice to know what to look out for this coming season? ESPY Menswear has put together a list of popular trends that stood out on a number of brands when having a sneek peek at their Autumn/Winter 2008 collections.

Checks
Checks just wont go away, after their great success last summer they are back with well known labels such as, Pepe, Tommy Hilfiger, and Firetrap in their Autumn/Winter collections.

Purple
The high street may have plumped for purple last autumn, but the colour has plenty of life left yet and will play an important part for the young fashion brands this season.

Graphic Prints
Pencil style doodles along with scrap book cut and paste prints will be seen on a large number of tee's and sweats. Amplified and Criminal Damage to name a few brands incorporating the eye catching designs in their collections.

Leather
Leather jackets are something the majority of brands will be including in this coming seasons selection. Trucker look leather and knit-collared bomber jackets are styles that should prove popular.
